What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is based on the premise that there is an organizational intelligence that expresses itself through matter. This means that each individual has the innate ability to organize the many different aspects of their body, mind and spirit. This organization is under the direction of an Innate Intelligence that flows through the nervous system: the master controller within each human being. If the nervous system is disturbed then the individual is unable to react appropriately to the demands of a harsh environment. When the internal environment is balanced with the external environment, then health is achieved. Chiropractic care concerns itself with the correction of the most common cause of nerve disturbance at the level of the spine.
Chiropractic is a method of health care based on the premise of intelligence expressing itself through matter. We must hold the philosophy that health is something inside all of us and if health is not there it is because we have lost the delicate balance of appropriate, natural reaction to our external environment.
Chiropractic is the world’s largest natural health profession and the 3rd largest primary care profession surpassed only by medicine and dentistry. Over 15% of people in the United States have seen a chiropractor professionally. As natural health professionals, chiropractors have been helping people reduce pain and increase function since its beginning.
Chiropractic is a uniquely American healing art having started in 1895 in Davenport, Iowa. Its popularity is due to the fact that it corrects mechanical trouble in the spine. This mechanical trouble, called “subluxation” affects the nervous system adversely and can lead to pain and other problems in the body. The correction of the problem is done naturally, typically by hand, and is usually quite comfortable. Most chiropractic patients look forward to this correction. The correction is called an “adjustment” and it offers dramatic, quick relief from pain in the short term and studies have shown that people who receive adjustments over a period of time have other health benefits as well. In fact, this is what attracts our public to chiropractors. It is not unusual for a person to get out of pain and notice that other, chronic health problems begin to get better too.
Your health is controlled directly or indirectly through your nervous system. The role of a chiropractor is to manage the health of the spine and thus the integrity of the nervous system. The chiropractic adjustment helps to restore the health of a damaged spine. When the spine and nervous system are working at their highest level the body’s natural recuperative powers allow function at the highest possible potential. So chiropractic often begins pain relief and offers natural health to those that choose it as a portal of entry into the healthcare system.

Vertebral subluxation
Vertebral subluxation is a direct result of an “overwhelmed” nervous system – it is what happens when a “circuit breaker” blows at the spinal level.
When this happens the spine is negatively affected and the delicate nerves it protects, become disturbed.
The effects of subluxation can be devastating and lead to a lower quality of life expression. There are many different techniques in the practice of chiropractic. Dr. Schroeder has studied many different styles and types of techniques for many years and has developed a quick and efficient, gentle but firm way of correcting vertebral subluxation. The correction of subluxation is called an “adjustment” and it is as much an Art as a Science. Doctor Schroeder places high value on his adjustment technique and constantly attends continuing education programs to stay on the cutting edge of adjustment techniques.
Your first visit with Dr. Tim will let you know exactly where you stand: your initial consultation is followed by chiropractic examination. The exam process is comfortable and includes a computerized analysis of the way nervous system is functioning. The best way to describe it is: high touch, high tech. All fees will be provided prior to any exam or test.
Cold Laser Therapy
Cold laser therapy AKA Low Level Laser Therapy uses photons of light to affect the health of cells in the body. Specifically the laser light penetrates the targeted tissues and converts light into photochemical energy in the cell. Receptors in the mitochondria accept the light and convert it to usable energy to speed healing and decrease pain.
At Tahoe City Chiropractic we use the Multiradiance Medical MR4 Ultra Super Pulsed Laser, the same one used by over 50 professional sports teams in 5 different sports. Because the frequencies and times of treatment must be correct in order to be most effective, you should only receive this treatment from qualified professionals who have been trained in laser therapy. Lasers are used by chiropractors, medical doctors, athletic trainers, physiatrists and physical therapists because they are a natural alternative for pain relief and healing of damaged tissue. Depending on the frequency used cold laser therapy can stimulate cells to help them heal or block pain impulses.
Cold laser therapy works directly on the cells of muscles, ligaments, cartilage and nerves. It is very effective and FDA approved for some of the conditions that we regularly treat here at Tahoe City Chiropractic including: Muscle/Joint pain, Stiffness, Osteoarthritis, Pain from Muscle Spasm, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Shoulder Pain, Knee Pain, Elbow Pain, Neck Pain and Lower Back Pain. The best part of Cold Laser Therapy is that you get relief from pain as well as healing of the tissue and patients tell us that the results are most often long lasting.

Exercise Therapy
Specific therapeutic exercise is not just about burning calories and building muscle, although those things do occur. Exercise therapy is designed to help you stretch tight muscles and strengthen weak muscles. This is done with a scientific process that is individualized and intended to help you recover from brand new injuries or re-establish proper movement that may have deteriorated over many years. At Tahoe City Chiropractic we first evaluate your general fitness level and then take a serious look at how your body is moving. Sometimes there are patterns that are actually the cause of your pain. By doing a short set of corrective exercises you can actually change these patterns into a way of moving with ease and reduce pain and degeneration.
Research has shown that chronic, mechanical back pain responds best to a combination of chiropractic adjustment and specific therapeutic exercise. The American College of Sports Medicine confirmed that nearly two thirds of patients would be more interested in exercising if their doctors advised it and gave them additional resources. We agree and stand committed to helping you achieve your goals. It is important to note that your results are self driven and we are here to help you with your vision of health. You get what you want, not what we want.
