Back pain is an effective motivator. Nobody likes it and when it presents, most people will do anything that they can in order to get away from its grip. People in pain are part of my life. They seek my services as a chiropractor when back or neck pain gets in the way of what they love to do. Many people tolerate pain until it affects their lifestyle. Pain is one thing, being disabled is another. When people come to Tahoe City Chiropractic they want fast, immediate relief. I understand that and I know that if I were in their shoes, I would want the same thing.
As a chiropractor the first thing I want to know is what caused the pain? The cause of back and neck pain is often stress. Stress can be physical, like an injury or an accumulation of small traumas. Physical stress can also come in the form of internal problems related to inflammation or disease. It’s interesting that a lot of people don’t remember the physical stress that started the problem. But there is always a cause and my job is to figure it out because that way, we can try to prevent a recurrence in the future. Whether you remember the physical stress or not, the cause is often a small problem in the spine in which the nerves are irritated. Disturbance in the nerves leads to problems in the body including, but not limited to pain.
The second type of stress is chemical. Chemical stress comes in the form of exposure to toxins like bad foods, bad drugs, alcohol and environment. We live in a society that is full of toxins and limiting our exposure to toxins as well as neutralizing the effects of exposure is an important part of health maintenance. Chemical stress causes problems in the spine because your nervous system reacts to battle the toxins and when overwhelmed, it causes dysfunction in the spine. Problems in the spine lead to problems in the nerves. This in turn leads to problems in the body including pain and decreased health.
Stress can also be emotional. Emotional stress comes in many forms and the result is a decrease in the body’s ability to function properly. That can lead to back pain, neck pain and other health problems. Emotional stress is common and its effects are an underestimated cause of disease and pain. Emotions are powerful. They can cause real physical change in the body. Emotions cause an upset in the nervous system and chiropractic was founded on the ability to detect and correct nervous system problems that lead to decreased pain and better health.
So what type of stress do you have? Is it Physical, Chemical or Emotional? As a chiropractor I find that most people have all three in varying degrees. Stress causes dis-ease and that leads to less than optimal health and well-being. Your nervous system is designed to react to stress and help deal with the ill effects. Overwhelming stress causes a disturbance of the nervous system that needs to be reset in order to eliminate dis-ease and pain. A chiropractor finds the problem and fixes the disturbance with a gentle and specific adjustment of the spine.
My job is to find it, fix it and leave the body alone to heal from the inside out using the natural healing capacity of the body. It’s natural, gentle and amazing to see the results.
