Regenerative Nutrition

There is no doubt that most of us are looking for a way to maintain our mobility, fluidity, energy, vitality and wisdom. Not only is this possible it is probable that we can increase our potential in these areas. There are several areas that can be addressed with respect to helping our body once again reach it’s full potential. Let me briefly discuss a few specifics then get into the particulars about Regenerative Nutrition.

The first thing to consider is movement. B.J. Palmer, the developer of chiropractic said, “Life is motion, motion is life. Lack of motion is death.” Truer words were never spoken. The opposite of regeneration is degeneration and that is what happens when a body ceases to move or moves incorrectly. Certainly you must move properly in order to allow your body to maintain its elasticity and vibrance. Keep yourself moving properly and do not succumb to a sedentary lifestyle. For over 108 years chiropractic care has helped people maintain or regain correct movement in body.

You must also keep an active mind. Use it or lose it. You should constantly be striving to be creative and productive. This is the real key to keeping young. There is a relationship between the mind, the body and the spirit. They will feed one another and if one aspect becomes flaccid, so will all of the others.

The title of this article suggests that you will be able to facilitate regeneration of your body using nutrition. This is true and well known in the scientific community.

First realize that you must eat wholesome, natural foods that will support your energy needs. That is the purpose of eating.

Unfortunately as we age it becomes impossible to get all of our nutritional needs met from foods alone. This leaves us with the need to supplement. What should we supplement with in order to facilitate regeneration of our body?

There is good evidence that taking at least 1500 mg of glucosamine sulfate per day will help regenerate cartilaginous tissue (the tissue that is in between your joints.) This is important because it is the deterioration of cartilage that is arthritis. If you are like most baby boomers you are at risk for arthritis. This comes from the fact that we are living longer and also have participated in sports and life activities that can lead to micro-damage of the cartilage cells.

You should also be taking MSM. MSM is an elemental sulfur that has been shown to cause growth of new cartilage cells. This differs from glucosamine sulfate because you can actually stimulate new growth. Many people have a good clinical result when they take 1500 mg of MSM per day.

Chondroitin sulfate acts like a joint lubrication. Think of it as “greasing up” the joint. For best results you may want to consider 1000 mg per day.

Omega fatty acids are some commonly overlooked supplements when the question of joint related pains is considered. These natural oils are known for their beneficial effect on cardiovascular disease. In fact they work quite well for this but they have an extra-added attraction, they decrease inflammation. There are three main Omegas that complement each other; Omega 3, Omega 6 and Omega 9. You need to take all three to get the best benefit. For the best result take a ratio that exceeds 2:1 of Omega 3 to Omega 6.

Proteolytic enzymes including bromain, papain and chymotrypsin help to dissolve scar tissue which will tend to limit the self perpetuating cycle of scar-inflammation-scar. In this case the “scar” is the abnormal production of bone and the deterioration of cartilage. You should always eat these enzymes following acute injury to the joints, muscles or ligaments. Consider taking them daily knowing that we may be injuring ourselves with micro or macro trauma on an ongoing basis.

Avoid Trans fatty acids. These unhealthy fats cause inflammation in the body. They are well known causes of heart disease, mostly because of the inflammation created inside of the artery and capillary walls. There is no safe level of trans fatty acids. You find them in processed foods because they are cheap and they increase shelf life. You will be surprised at the prevalence of these killer fats in the American diet. Look for the words “partially hydrogenated” or “hydrogenated” on the labels of snack foods, baked goods, chips or meal replacement bars. Avoid them and you will live longer and healthier.

Other supplements known to have a beneficial effect on joint restoration are ginger and boswellia root. These substances have historically been known to help joints survive in the long run. We should pay attention to our joints. They serve us well and we should serve them well. The knowledge that has been gained in this field is helping our population to lead a healthy, active life.

If this seems overwhelming relax there are some very good products on the market that encompass all of the above supplements in one preparation. The best one that I have found is The Ultimate Joint Formula. To make it easy on yourself take the dose suggested on the label or speak with me about your special needs.

Remember that there are other supplements and procedures that can help you to live a life of motion and activity. If you would like to know my other suggestions for an anti-inflammatory protocol, just give me a click and I will send them to you.

All is Well,
